JAMES HALLIDAY 2016 EDITION AUSTRALIAN WINE COMPANION

2012 The Marker Cabernet Shiraz – 96 Points

Outstanding + Special Value + Best of the Best by Variety

Standard vinification, matured for 16 months in French oak (40% new). Still has a vivid primary hue, and vivid cassis and blackberry fruits with exceptional energy, tension and drive; the great length of the palate and aftertaste is an inevitable reflection of the amazing fruit.

2014 The Marker Pinot Noir – 95 Points

Outstanding + Special Value

Hand-picked, crushed into small open fermenters for cold soak, then warm-fermented (peak 25 degrees Celsius), 9 month’s maturation in French oak (40% new). Vivid hue; a garden of red flower scents on the bouquet, the palate echoing the bouquet, although not all the buds are open; the way the wine finishes is a sure sign of what is around the corner; just a little patience required.

2013 Garten Cabernet Sauvignon – 94 Points

Outstanding + Special Value

Standard Rosenthal vinification/oak maturation (18 months French oak, 30% new). Impressive depth to its crimson-purple colour; blackcurrant, bay leaf, dark chocolate and a touch of plum march across the medium to full-bodied palate. An unbeatable proposition for cellaring.

2014 Richings Chardonnay – 94 Points

Outstanding

Hand-picked fruit chilled and whole bunch-pressed direct to French oak for wild-yeast ferment in a temperature-controlled room for slow fermentation, lees-stirred weekly until balanced, 9 month’s maturation. A super-elegant wine, still needing to build a little more flesh over the next year.

2014 The Marker Riesling – 94 Points

Outstanding + Special Value

Hand-picked, whole bunch-pressed, cold-fermented with natural yeast. Quartz-white; has the authority and drive that are the markers of the region, fruit and minerally acidity intertwined, lime and grapefruit at its heart.

2013 The Marker Shiraz – 93 Points

Highly Recommended

2013 Garten Merlot – 92 Points

RAY JORDAN 2013 WINE GUIDE

Rosenthal Richings Shiraz 2010 – 92 points

Another super wine from this small Blackwood Valley producer specialising in red wines with a strong shiraz influence. Dark berry and liquorice on the nose with a decent whiff of cedar and vanilla essence. The palate is deeply intense and concentrated with a typical velvety smooth texture. The tannins are ripe and the oak well weighted. Lovely sweet middle palate with a little spicy savouriness. Better after a few more years once that oak settles in.

Rosenthal the Naomi cabernet shiraz 2010 94 points

Ripe juicy berry bursts from the glass exhibiting abundant cherry and blackberry aromas plus a little cedary oak influence adding structure and complexity. The juicy fruit flavours are appealing and more medium bodied than full. Still there is plenty in this elegant and most stylish expression of the Blackwood Valley.

Australian Wine Showcase April 2012

Rosenthal The Naomi Cabernet Shiraz 2010 – 93 points
Intensely fruit driven wine, showing excellent integration of tannins and oak.

Scoop Magazine Autumn 2012

Rosenthal The Naomi Cabernet Shiraz 2010 – Gold Medal – 19 Points
A good example of this uniquely Australian wine blend. Great colour with an intense aroma of raspberry, blackcurrant cedar, dark fruits and lashings of oak. It is full-bodied, rich, juicy, fleshy wine with fine tannins, good length of flavour and finishing with a raspberry aftertaste.

WINE SHOWCASE MAGAZINE

The Naomi Shiraz Cabernet 2009 – 93 points

Lewis Blake Review
2009 The Naomi shiraz cabernet
Colour and Condition – the wine was deep crimson in the glass, with a purple tone attesting to its youth. The condition was excellent. Bouquet – the nose was a subtle combination of a berry fruit and French oak, initially subdued but developing in the glass. Palate – the front palate was characterised by berry fruit, lifted by the fresh acid base. The middle palate was smooth and mouth-filling, and lacking in the somewhat acrid varietal characters that can dominate the Shiraz-based wines to their detriment. The finish was clean, slightly astringent, of good length and with the oak the most prominent feature. Overall I found it to be a wine more subtle than its predecessor, with all the necessary ingredients to mature well. It currently displays a freshness on the palate and is yet to fully integrate. (Again) Congratulations on producing a stylish wine with such qualities.
